Because of the dramatically slowed movement of Hurricane Dorian, Palm Beach County Schools Superintendent Donald Fennoy has extended the closure of District offices and schools through Wednesday.
Nine general population, school-based, shelters, a special needs shelter and a pet-friendly shelter remain open in Palm Beach County, and space remains available.
The nine general population shelters are:
- Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Elem. School,
- Independence Middle School
- Lakeshore Middle School
- Pahokee Middle School
- Palm Beach Gardens High School
- Palm Beach Central High School
- Park Vista High School
- Forest Hill High School
- Atlantic Community High School
The special needs shelter at the South Florida Fairgrounds and the pet-friendly shelter at West Boynton Recreation Center are also open.
If you choose to go to a hurricane shelter, please bring the following:
- 3 day supply of water
- 2 changes of comfortable clothes
- Flashlight with extra batteries
- Cell phone and a battery-operated charger
- Medications and prescriptions
- Snacks/Special diet foods
- Cash
- Photocopies of valuable documents
- Games, books and playing cards for entertainment during your stay
- Space is limited, so please pack accordingly
- Weapons are prohibited in shelters
