BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — A woman critically injured in a late December car crash has died, according to PBSO.
Elaine Friedman, 71, of Century Village in Boca, died Sunday. Friedman told investigators that she didn’t see a traffic light on Yamato Road when she hit a car that was apparently turning — legally — into Boca West.
Here is the complete police narrative. Friedman was driving Vehicle 1. We are withholding the name of the other driver as no charges were filed.
UPON ARRIVAL ON SCENE THE DRIVER OF VEHICLE 1 WAS ALREADY TRANSPORTED VIA GROUND BY PALM BEACH COUNTY FIRE RESCUE TO DELRAY MEDICAL CENTER (RUN #19139274).
THE DRIVER OF VEHICLE 2 STATED HE WAS WESTBOUND ON YAMATO ROAD IN THE LEFT TURN LANE TO TURN SOUTH ONTO BOCA WEST DRIVE. DRIVER OF VEHICLE 2 STATED HE RECEIVED THE GREEN ARROW TO TURN ONTO BOCA WEST DRIVE AND PROCEEDED INTO THE INTERSECTION WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN HE REALIZED VEHICLE 1 (Friedman), TRAVELING EAST ON YAMATO ROAD WAS NOT STOPPING. THE DRIVER OF VEHICLE 1 ATTEMPTED TO AVOID COLLISION, SWERVED RIGHT SUBSEQUENTLY STRIKING THE FRONT LEFT OF VEHICLE 2 WITH THE LEFT FRONT CORNER/ENTIRE LEFT SIDE OF HER VEHICLE, VEHICLE 1. VEHICLE 1 THEN CONTINUED EAST OUT OF CONTROL WHEN THE RIGHT REAR STRUCK THE UTILTY BOX ON THE SOUTH EAST CORNER OF YAMATO ROAD AND BOCA WEST DRIVE. VEHICLE 1 CAME TO FINAL REST 10-15 FEET FROM UTILTY BOX.
THE DRIVER OF VEHICLE 2 AS WELL AS HIS ONE PASSENGER WERE NOT INJURED IN THE COLLISION.
I RESPONDED UP TO DELRAY MEDICAL CENTER TO SPEAK WITH THE DRIVER OF VEHICLE ONE. THE DRIVER OF VEHICLE 1 (ELAINE FRIEDMAN) TOLD ME SHE WAS TRAVELING EAST ON YAMATO ROAD BUT DOES NOT EVER REMEMBER SEEING A TRAFFIC CONTROL SIGNAL. ELAINE WAS CONSCIOUS/ALERT BUT WAS IN SOME PAIN FROM HER INJURIES.
Friedman’s time of death: 11:47 AM on Sunday, January 12th, 2020.
