CORONAVIRUS: Local Antibody Testing Now Available

Coronavirus News

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — Antibody testing for COVID-19 is now available through Quest Diagnostics. The test, which can be purchased online for $119, yields a result in just a few days. A visit to a doctor is not required — once a test is paid for online, an appointment is generated at an area Quest location.

Quest has facilities in Boca Raton, Delray Beach and Boynton Beach.

According to a Quest media advisory:

“With the QuestDirect service, individuals may gain insight into whether or not they have been exposed to COVID-19 and have developed antibodies. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, although we do not yet know whether the development of antibodies provides protection from re-infection, or how long such protection lasts, COVID-19 antibody testing may indicate whether “the person has been exposed to the virus and developed antibodies against it, which may mean that person has at least some immunity to the coronavirus.” Antibody testing uses blood serum specimens and is sometimes referred to as serology testing.”

Test results are available online.

According to Quest:

“ The serology antibody tests run by Quest Diagnostics are either approved by the FDA under an emergency use authorization, or were released for use under the FDA guidance, “Policy for Diagnostic Tests for Coronavirus Disease-2019 during the Public Health Emergency,” updated March 16, 2020.”

Quest previously announced “at home” test kits for COVID-19 — although the company is currently holding these kits for first responders and other emergency workers.
