STREAKING RUN PLANNED ON BOCA BEACH, WITH MASKS

Run, If Real, Is Promoted As Effort To Designate Boca Beach “Clothing Optional”

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — Just when when you thought you’d seen enough crazy this year, get ready for this: a group is promoting an upcoming early morning “streaking run” on a Boca Raton beach.

The only requirement: face coverings.

Using the domain BareBoca.com and social media channels, the group is apparently using the run to promote the need for a “clothing optional beach” in Boca Raton.

“Our bodies need the Sun’s healing rays more than ever,” wrote the group on its website. “Our elected leaders opened the beaches to allow for greater sun exposure. We cannot let any virus hide under our clothes. Make Boca Raton’s Beaches Clothing Optional!”

The group is promoting a run on a “to be determined” Boca Raton beach at 6:30 a.m. on July 1st. The only requirement, “you must wear a facial covering.”

To be clear: we completely acknowledge that it is entirely possible that this is someone’s attention-seeking attempt at humor. Journalistically, we would normally track down the website owner, even though they bought the domain through GoDaddy’s “Domain By Proxy’ service which hides names and addresses.

We would then follow up with lots questions, including: “are you concerned about violating indecent exposure laws in the county?”

But since this is such a head-nodding, chuckle-inducing campaign, we’re going to let it go for a day or two before we pry too hard to figure out who is behind it.

We’ll also pause before determining whether it’s a legit group of people who truly feel a need for “clothing optional” beaches in Boca, or if it’s just a guy with a propensity for letting it all hang out in public.

We were unable to locate any permits for a naked run on July 1st.

We suspect we’ll hear more. Which may be better than seeing more.
