DISTANCE LEARNING ALL FALL? PALM BEACH SCHOOL DISTRICT SETS VIRTUAL MEETINGS AS CASES SURGE

Coronavirus News Palm Beach County Schools Schools

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — Health officials are focusing on the growing crisis in Florida — and specifically Palm Beach County — as record COVID-19 infections and “percent positive” rates persist. The increasing numbers are raising serious question about Palm Beach County School District’s plans for the fall.

While nothing is official at this point, there has been significant discussion about a hybrid system, where half a school goes to school Monday and Tuesday with the second half of a school attending Wednesday and Thursday. But those plans may become impossible if infections don’t subside.

Health officials says that’s not currently happening.

The Palm Beach County School District is holding a series of “virtual town hall” meetings to discuss plans and solicit input. An announcement is expected to be made by July 15th.

From the Palm Beach County School District:

The School District of Palm Beach County is hosting several virtual town hall meetings to highlight the ongoing work in the District and provide an overview of considerations for the possible plans for reopening schools for the 2020-2021 school year.

The meetings have been scheduled for specific cities and regions around the county and are open to all community members to watch. Parents and guardians of students enrolled in District-operated schools are encouraged to tune in.
Each event will include a question and answer period. Questions must be submitted prior to the start of each event using the email address or phone number listed below each town hall.

Meetings will be presented in Spanish, Haitian-Creole, Portuguese, and Mayan languages on Tuesday, June 23.
All town hall events will be recorded for those individuals who are unable to watch live.
