COVID: Palm Beach County Schools To ‘Distance Only’ After Thanksgiving?

SOURCES: Possible As Cases Surge In Schools.

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — There is growing concern in the Palm Beach County School District that COIVID-19’s surging spread infecting students and staff may lead to the need to stop “brick and mortar” education in the weeks between Thanksgiving and winter break.

There are now 547 reported cases of COVID-19 in the schools with numbers climbing. Several schools are reporting eye opening statistics, including Palm Beach Central High with 24 cases, Calusa Elementary School in Boca Raton with 16 cases, Binks Forest Elementary in Wellington 13 cases, Whispering Pines Elementary School in West Boca Raton with 9 cases.

Senior school district officials continue to point to bad behavior by parents who send sick children to school. While the Florida Department of Health for Palm Beach County maintains there is no evidence of person to person spread within a school building, the numbers cast shade on that claim.

”If parents and guardians stopped being selfish,” said a senior school district official, “if they stayed off the tennis courts and kept their kids home when sick, we wouldn’t be heading in a bad direction. We know what’s happening. That is not every case, but there is a selfish mindset that we can’t seem to counter in parts of Palm Beach County.”

The Palm Beach County School District has transmitted several robocalls to 180,000 families with children in schools, reminding them that keeping children home — showing any signs of COVID infection or other illnesses — is a requirement, not a request.

Here’s the Friday morning list.

4 thoughts on “COVID: Palm Beach County Schools To ‘Distance Only’ After Thanksgiving?”

  1. Schools being open safely should be everyone’s priority after healthcare and truly essential business. County needs to get the messaging out to avoid group gatherings. Start by closing all indoor dining, close gyms, movies, or any other indoor gathering places. Continue mask mandates everywhere in the county. And please stop all of the gathering for birthday parties and other events at this time.

  2. The numbers aren’t correct it says Jupiter high school has one case just on Tuesday phone calls and text of 3 cases
November 6 several cases doesn’t say how many just several. November 4, November 5
So it is a lot worse in the schools than just 500 something cases

Ed note: you are correct. The “official” numbers are often a few days behind reality.

  3. Closing SCHOOLS- but not GYMS ,TENNIS COURTS, FOOTBALL STADIUMS, still.CRAMMING ON AIRPLANES, HAVING parties…etc is UNBELIEVABLE. ..the kids CANT GET THE TIME BACK!!!

  4. Omg, it’s so horrible.. 24 cases in a school of 3000 students, which if we say half are virtual is an infection rate of 1.8 percent…. If we take the 547 cases into the 65000 students attending classes, that is a .8 percent infection rate… Now, if we say that 0.5 percent of cases in this age group develop complications enough to warrant going to the hospital, that means 5 maybe 6 kids went to the hospital. Oh my, let’s shut everything down! The risk! The risk! Let’s not mention that every time they get on the bus/car to school they have a 1 percent chance of death or serious injury. Holy cow, how do we ever survive, let’s everyone put a giant bubble suit in, and please for the love of God, put bubble wrap on your car!!
