BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — The Palm Beach County School District added a staggering 161 COVID-19 cases in just a week, but it’s business as normal hours before the district closes for Thanksgiving break. In a terse email received by BocaNewsNow.com on Thursday, a school district official said there is no discussion of returning to “distance only,” despite the rising numbers that are on a trajectory to hit 1000 cases by mid-December.
New York City schools shut Wednesday after the city hit a 3 percent positivity rate. Palm Beach County — one of the largest school districts in the country — carries on at a nearly 10 percent positivity rate.
Superintendent Dr. Donald Fennoy has largely been quiet on the rising numbers, except an announcement late last week inexplicably heralding 9,000 COVID-19 tests available for 180,000 students.
Health professionals speaking with BocaNewsNow.com fully expect “disastrous” conditions in the weeks between Thanksgiving and winter break, as families that insist on having inappropriate Thanksgiving celebrations will facilitate the spread of COVID-19 when kids return to school a week from Monday.
