BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2021 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — BocaNewsNow.com is just shy of a decade old. While websites come and go, and print newspapers beg for donations, what started as a “hobby” website has been self-sufficient from day one and continues to be successful.

Part of the reason, despite what some of our readers may believe, is that we play by long established rules of journalism. We get it right. And if we make an error, we correct it as quickly as possible based on facts that are presented to us after publication.

Another journalism rule: we do not threaten. News is news. Just as we refuse to be threatened by readers or lawyers, we never jeopardize or demean the power of the press by using it to threaten the subject of a potential story. If there is something to expose, we’re going to expose it. What someone does after news is reported may help control their own future narrative, but it will not mitigate the facts of a story or alter our coverage.

If it’s news, it’s news. If it’s not, it’s not.

So it is disheartening to learn that the subjects of a potential story allegedly threatened others with our coverage. In a story that may or may not evolve into something of public interest over the next several weeks, BocaNewsNow.com was recently informed that our news organization was used as a threat. Others were told that if they don’t do certain things, they’ll be exposed to “BocaNewsNow.com.”

While we appreciate the power we apparently have, we don’t play that way. And while we always welcome your tips and story ideas, we ask that you do not use our name to threaten others. When there is a story, we’ll report it. When there isn’t, we won’t. What separates a legitimate news site from a blogger in a basement is that we know the difference.

Credible journalism has never been more important. Journalism our readers rely on. Journalism that BocaNewsNow.com is committed to provide.
