DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2021 MetroDesk Media, LLC) (News App readers click here for full story) — A Delray Beach man is facing drug possession and a weapons charge after allegedly ordering drugs online, then having a semiautomatic pistol in his possession when undercover postal workers and narcotics agents delivered them to his home.
Ryan Laine of the 3200 block of Palm Drive remains in the Palm Beach County Jail following his arrest on Wednesday. He’s being held on $10,000 bond.
The arrest report could only come out of Florida. We’ll provide excerpts here — read the entire document, below.
“On February 24, 2021, Agents form the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Interdiction Unit along with United States Postal Inspection Services Agents were conducting drug interdiction duties at the Palm Beach International Airport. Agents located and visually inspected a parcel that appeared suspicious and consistent with previous parcels that have been seized and found to contain narcotics. The parcel was being shipped from David Weems 5911 North Elm Street in Spokane, Washington, and being shipped to William J. Laine at 3216 Palm Drive in Delray Beach. Through a records check, (we learned) the recipient, William J. Laine, passed away in 2014.”
“Your affiant knows from gaining and experience that Washington is a source state that ships narcotics to Florida. Your affiant also knows from training and experience that drug shippers will take extra measures to ensure drug odor does not escape the parcel. This parcel was excessively taped with clear packing tape.”
A drug sniffing dog, according to the report, confirmed the package was suspicious.
“At approximately 7pm, members of the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office executed the search warrant at the target residence. Upon approaching the rear garage, the defendant and his mother were found inside with a family dog. Both subjects exited the garage (a makeshift room) and where detained without incident. During a search of the garage, the following items were located: the parcel containing 1,453 grams of marijuana. Twelve plastic heat sealed bags containing 1,503 grams of marijuana inside two green duffel bags. A .380 caliber Baikal semiautomatic handgun. $12,163 in US Currency.”
According to the police report, “Ryan Laine advised the parcel located inside the garage was his and it contained marijuana. Laine advised he purchased the marijuana online through a source in California. Laine advised he paid approximately $1500 per pound for the marijuana.”
