UPDATE: 11:38 a.m. Saturday — name of deceased, crash details here.

DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — A portion of Lyons Road is closed right now (1:41 p.m. Friday) as police investigate what we understand to be a critical crash on the busy road.

The section of Lyons between Atlantic and Boynton Beach Blvd. is blocked to traffic. The road is closed in both directions.

The crash involves someone on a bicycle and at least one car.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office says the closure is likely to last “quite a while” due to the severity of the incident. If this is a fatal crash, expect Lyons to be closed well into rush hour. The condition of the victim or victims is currently unclear.

This is the stretch of Lyons that runs by Delray Market Place at 15481 Lyons Road. It was not immediately clear where on Lyons the incident occurred. The entire stretch is closed.

Lyons Road provides access to homeowners in The Canyons, a series of communities closer to Boynton Beach Blvd. We expect that police are working with homeowners to gain access to the Canyons from the Boynton Beach Blvd. end of Lyons. The Atlantic Avenue side is completely blocked.

Other northbound or southbound traffic should route to 441 or use Florida’s Turnpike.

This is a developing story — we’ll update as soon as we have more information.
