BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2021 MetroDesk Media, LLC) (News App readers click here) — Who secures a COVID-19 shot appointment and who doesn’t continues to be a video game where those with the fastest fingers and a bit of luck win.
As of early Thursday morning, appointments continue to be few and far between, but we are seeing sporadic appointment availability at various locations throughout the day. If you are looking for a shot, consider our unscientific but accurate advice:
CVS tends to open appointments early in the morning — often between 5:30 a.m. and 8. This isn’t set in stone and there are no guarantees, but if you’re up early, visit CVS.com and click on Florida. You’ll know immediately — before you enter any information — if it’s worth your time.
Walmart and Sam’s Club seem to be unmitigated disasters. We have checked multiple times a day for more than a week and have found no appointments available — ever — at any location in Broward or Palm Beach County. Again, your results may vary. Inexplicably, you need to check each Walmart location individually, unlikely CVS which gives you a full overview of every location.
When it comes to Publix, what hasn’t been said already? The store, which seems to enjoy a special relationship with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, sometimes accepts appointments on Wednesday and Friday mornings at 7 a.m., and sometimes doesn’t. We note that Publix is not a part of the Federal Pharmacy program, so may follow Florida’s rules a bit more than CVS, Walgreens and others that are a part of the federal program.
Walgreens does not yet appear to have any participating stores locally.
Winn Dixie is using a “bot” which asks you questions, then may (or may not) respond with a list of stores that may (or may not) be anywhere near you.
