DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — The man seen in the photo above is allegedly trespassing in gated communities in West Delray Beach and West Boca Raton, claiming to be a representative of “Aptive” Pest Control. Riding a scooter and wearing his mask as a chin diaper, he is ringing doorbells and knocking on doors, attempting to solicit business for a “pest control” company. (News app readers access our full report).
The man is using a tactic we’ve reported on before: claiming that “the ‘Johnsons’ or the ‘Smiths’ down the street are using our service and we wanted to offer you a great price.” Your name and the name of your neighbors is information easily accessible through public records. There is no way to confirm whether the house four doors down is actually using “Aptive” pest control, or not.
The “I work for your neighbor” sales tactic is well documented in South Palm Beach County.
We called Aptive multiple times this afternoon to learn about its sales practices. We were hung up on each and every time. The closest office is in Davie — no supervisor, communications representative or manager was ever available when we called.
Aptive Environmental has 1,392 complaints with the BBB, according to the Better Business Bureau Website.
If you are solicited by Aptive Pest Control, there is nothing preventing you from calling security in your community, or the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office if you are in unincorporated Palm Beach County. The non-emergency number is 561-688-3000. Once your situation is resolved, we’d like to hear about your experience with Aptive. Please use the form below.
