BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2021 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Boca Raton woman, involved in a crash at I-95 and Spanish River Blvd., apparently didn’t see an officer standing next to her vehicle.
That officer watched as the woman, Char DiDonato of SE Olive Way, tried multiple times to light a cigarette but couldn’t get the flame close enough to the cigarette to ignite. She is now charged with DUI.
From a police report reviewed by BocaNewsNow.com:
“On 8/7/2021, at approximately 1831 hours, BRPD communications received a report of a motor vehicle crash in the area of the 195 exit ramp at NW Spanish River Blvd. The accident vehicles were a white BMW and a black Jaguar.”
”I responded to the scene as a back-up unit and (the other officer) informed me that the driver of the black Jaguar, Charo Di Donato, was displaying what she believed were signs of impairment. Officer Golden stated that Di Donato was sitting in the driver’s seat of the black Jaguar when she arrived on scene, and I observed that Di Donato was still sitting in the driver’s seat of the black Jaguar when I arrived. I then approached the black Jaguar from the driver’s side and stood next to the driver’s door for several minutes before Di Donato noticed my presence. During this time, I observed Di Donato attempt to light a cigarette and fail several times. Di Donato even tried smoking to unlit cigarette in between her failed attempts, not realizing that she had completely missed the cigarette with the flame.”
“When Di Donato finally lit the cigarette, I observed that she had difficulty breaking off the ashes and got them all over her clothing from her. While observing Di Donato, I noticed that her movements were slow and lacked precision. Di Donato had an overall drowsy appearance. Di Donato eventually noticed my presence of her and began speaking with me. I asked Di Donato where she was coming from, and she stated she was coming from her residence located in the area of Palmetto Park Rd and Ocean Blvd. According to Di Donato, she was headed to a Walmart located on Woolbright Rd. Based on the location of the crash, Di Donato’s direction of travel at the time of the crash, and Di Donato’s starting and ending location, it was apparent that she was disoriented.“
DiDinato, according to police, had trouble completing multiple field sobriety tests. She was eventually arrested and charged with DUI, although the results of a urine test are pending.
Charo DiDinato was booked into the Palm Beach County at 1:36 a.m. July 9th, and released three hours later on her own recognizance.
