BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2021 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Florida just set a record, and it’s a bad one. The Centers for Disease Control says Florida recorded 21,683 new COVID-19 cases on Friday. The report was released on Saturday. It is the single highest one day total of new COVID-19 cases in Florida since the pandemic began.
The stunning Friday report brings the seven day moving average to 15,817 — also the highest COVID-19 seven day average recorded since COVID-19 tracking began.
According to the CDC, the death count is also surging, with 108 COVID-19 deaths recorded on Friday. The highest in recent weeks was July 22nd when 148 Floridian COVID-19 deaths were recorded. The seven day moving death average is now 58.
As Florida’s numbers hit record levels, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis continues to live in a state of denial — he is holding firm on his policy prohibiting school districts from mandating masks. He, or his office, tweeted several comments on Saturday, allegedly from supporters, suggesting that he is a smart man making very smart decisions.
