BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2021 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The first full week of school for Palm Beach County School starts with 202 students testing positive for COVID-19.
The school year started last Tuesday, and almost immediately, COVID cases were logged by school officials. As of this morning, 202 students and 43 employees are positive for COVID-19.
The impact of COVID is greater than the number of verified infections. Last week, interim Superintendent Mike Burke confirmed 440 kids were quarantined when just 45 were positive for COVID. Using that math, just under 2000 students are likely quarantined now. Those students can’t go to school, and have no access to “live” instruction. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis banned school districts from offering virtual, live learning as they did last year. Quarantined students may download school work and complete it on their own.
This is an incomplete look at schools with infection counts notable to the BocaNewsNow.com audience: Christa McAuliffe Middle School reports 6 infected students; Don Estridge High Tech Middle reports 2 infected students; Eagles Landing Middle reports 2 infected students and 1 infected staffer.
Egret Lake Elementary reports 3 infected students and 1 infected staffer; Equestrian Trails Elementary reports 5 infected students and 1 infected staffer; Jupiter Community High reports 6 infected students.
Loggers’ Run Community Middle reports 1 infected student; Morkiami Park Elementary reports 2 infected students and 1 infected staffer; Olympic Heights High School reports 1 infected student and 1 infected staffer; Palm Beach Central High reports 7 infected students and 1 infected staffer; Palm Beach Lakes Community High reports 9 infected students and 1 infected staffer.

Again, this is an incomplete look at all infections in the Palm Beach County School District. We note that the District, by its own admission, reports these cases to the public roughly 3 days after they are confirmed by health officials.
