DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2021 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Delray Beach man is now the latest Kings Point resident to temporarily trade a condo in Delray Beach for a jail cell in West Palm.
According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, Edward Ugarte threatened to kill his new wife when she realized he was drinking Vodka, not tea. She poured the Vodka down the drain, which allegedly led Ugarte to threaten to kill her with a butcher knife.
We obtained the police report narrative from a responding deputy:
“Upon arrival, I met with the victim who stated the following: She has been married to Edward S. Ugarte since June 17, 2021. Today at approximately around 1730, Ugarte returned from throwing away the trash and walked directly to the kitchen with a bag in his hand that he was trying to conceal. Once in the kitchen he removed a medium size bottle of vodka from the bag and started pouring into a coffee cup, then added juice.
The victim then walked into the kitchen and asked him “what are you drinking?” and he responded “tea”. The victim then said “let me have some” but Ugarte refused to give her any of her and walked away. The victim followed him around the house trying to “taste the tea” but Ugarte refused again and drank it all in one sip. The victim then confronted him about drinking alcohol and he admitted to having bought. While in the kitchen, Ugarte started pouring himself another drink and the victim asked him to let her serve it because he was filling up the coffee cup, to which he agreed. When the victim took the bottle from him, she immediately dumped its contents out in the kitchen sink. Ugarte then got very upset and said “this is it, I’m going to kill you” as he was reaching for a butcher knife in the immediate area. The victim then ran away from the kitchen and locked herself in the bedroom. While inside, Ugarte yelled “you better not be here when I return or your children will have to come pick you up at the morgue”. The victim dialed 9-1-1 and Ugarte left the residence in his Red Nissan SUV prior to our arrival.”
Deputies found Ugarte and and charged him with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. He was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail Thursday morning and released later in the day.
A court date is pending.
