BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2021 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The weekly local hospital report issued by the United States Department of Health and Human Services paints a troubling picture for pediatric COVID-19 infections.
While the overall number of new admissions for adult COVID-19 continues to decrease, pediatric admissions are holding steady.
For the report just released which covers data for the seven day period starting August 27, 2021:
West Boca Medical Center admitted 32 children under the age of 18 for COVID-19 care.
Bethesda Hospital East admitted 9 children under age 18 for COVID-19 care.
Hollywood Regional admitted 75 children under age 18 for COVID-19 care.
These are the three main area hospitals with pediatric departments.
Palm Beach County, in its official Monday evening report, showed that 11 children, under age 18, are currently admitted to a Palm Beach County hospital for COVID-19 care.
Statewide Adult and Pediatric COVID-19 Data
Statewide, the daily report from HHS shows that 1,594 adults were admitted to a hospital in Florida on Monday for COVID-19 care, bringing the adult COVID hospital population to 13,428. The pediatric new admission count was 74. There are now 200 children with “in patient” status at a Florida hospital for COVID-19.
There are currently 3,132 adult patients in a Florida ICU for COVID-19 care out of a total of 6,198 ICU beds in use — that represents 51 percent. The Florida Hospital Association reports that 2,417 patients are so critically ill with COVID-19 that they are relying on ventilators to breathe.
According to HHS, 1,947 people died in Florida hospitals or medical facilities over the past seven days. That brings the daily average death count to 278.
