UPDATE: 8:15 a.m. United claims via Twitter that the problems are resolved, however, many are still “tweeting” that this is not the case. We encourage United passengers to check with the airline before heading to FLL, PBI or MIA.

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2021 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — If you are flying United Airlines today out of Fort Lauderdale or Palm Beach International, check online flight tracking sites before heading to the airport. The airline is experiencing what is described as as “massive” system outage that is affecting flights and the company’s website.

The airline initially denied there was a problem when customers started “Tweeting” customer service in the early morning hours. But as the morning progressed, United acknowledged issues with the computer system and flights in general.

While United is not major carrier in South Florida, it does provide several flights a day to major hubs including Newark, Houston and Chicago.

There are reports of a flight heading to London overnight — from Washington’s Dulles Airport — that was forced to return for unexplained reason. It was not immediately clear if that turnaround is related to the issues being experienced this morning.

There are several reports of the United.com website being down. While it does appear to be up as of 7:54 a.m., there are continued reports that the site can not be used for check-in or flight changes.

Both PBI and FLL operate online flight boards. Travelers are encouraged to check before heading to an airport today.
