BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2021 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — If you are flying on Southwest Airlines today, or expecting someone who is, prepare for a day of frustration. The airline is experiencing significant delays and cancellations.

The airline announced on Twitter a short time ago that combination of weather and Air Traffic Control issues are affecting travel for the airline nationwide.

”ATC issues and disruptive weather have resulted in a high volume of cancellations throughout the weekend while we work to recover our operation. We appreciate your patience as we accommodate affected Customers, and Customer Service wait times are longer than usual.”

Flight boards at FLL and and PBI show a significant number of Southwest flights are delayed, with many cancelled.

Among the inbound flights cancelled today by Southwest: Baltimore to Fort Lauderdale, Saint Louis to Fort Lauderdale, Houston to Fort Lauderdale, Nashville to Fort Lauderdale, Atlanta to Fort Lauderdale, Chicago to Fort Lauderdale, and more.

Outbound flights on Southwest already cancelled today include Fort Lauderdale to Orlando, Chicago, Tampa, San Juan, St. Louis, Indianapolis, Providenciales, Islip, and more.

Southwest’s operation is smaller at PBI, but it appears most flights are cancelled as well.

We note that no other airline appears to be having issues today. View the FLL and PBI flight boards.

Check with Southwest before heading to the airport.
