BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2021 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Michael Gurfinkiel, according to a police report, was ready to deal with his girlfriend’s boyfriend who he does not like.
The 74-year-old resident of the condo building at 2519 North Ocean Boulevard was allegedly standing in a hallway in what police describe as a “bladed” position when they arrived as part of an unrelated matter. A “bladed” position is when your shoulder-blade is back, the other is forward, much like you’d expect to see a police officer preparing for a shootout on a television crime show.
From the police report:
“Michael was bladed, left shoulder forward and his right shoulder back, his right hand was on the backstrap of a black handgun. The handgun appeared to be in a waist-band style holster (cumber bun style wrap that has a pocket holster for the firearm). His checkered shirt was partially covering the firearm, but approximately 2 inches of the slide was protruding from his shirt and the iron sights and muzzle could be visibly seen. Michael was detained and disarmed pending further investigation. A black Glock 48 Serial #AFML855 was in the waistband holster. The firearm contained what appeared to be 6 live rounds of 9mm ammunition, but the firearm was not charged.”
Also from the report:
“When asked to explain how this justified the reason for carrying a concealed firearm and locating him in the position described above; Michael stated, he is aware that (his girlfriend) is currently seeing another male who he does not get along with. Michael was unsure if (his girlfriend) would bring her current boyfriend with her to cause problems which is why he was found in this position.”
Police noted in the report that Gurfinkiel was not “transferring his firearm from his vehicle, he was not dressed in hunting garb or carrying any fishing gear, nor did he indicate he was coming from a shooting range.” He allegedly told police that he recently applied for a concealed weapons permit.
Michael Gurfinkiel was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed firearm. He was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail at 4:15 a.m. on Thursday and released a few hours later on his own recognizance.
