BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2022 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The Palm Beach County School District has now recorded more than 10,000 COVID-19 cases during the 2021-2022 school year. The case count is more than three times the number of cases recorded during the entire 2020-2021 school year.
The record-setting infection number comes as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis holds firm in his ban on students being required to wear masks.
On Tuesday, the school district reported the addition of 392 cases. We believe that to be the single largest one-day case increase during the entire pandemic. Of the 392 new cases, 291 are student cases with 101 employees testing positive. The Palm Beach County School District reports numbers twice a day. The first update on Wednesday also revealed an alarmingly high number with 72 new student cases recorded.
Among South Palm Beach County schools reporting high numbers: Olympic Heights has logged 195 cases this school year; Boca Raton High 162 cases; Spanish River High has logged 147 cases; West Boca Community High 148 cases; Verde K-8 has logged 116 cases; Eagles Landing Middle School 121 cases.
