BOCA RATON, FL ( (Copyright © 2022 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The Palm Beach County School District today is expected to pass the 12,000 COVID-19 case mark — an astonishing watermark. The school district logged a total of 3,855 during the 2020-2021 school year.

Today’s numbers already represent a level three times last year’s total count — and that number is growing. As of 6 a.m. Monday, the school district reports 11,967 logged COVID cases during the 2021-2022 school year, with 9,975 students and 1,992 employees reporting positive tests. Even so, the School District today returns to “mask optional” for staff and visitors. Masks have been optional for students ever since Florida Governor Ron DeSantis instituted a mask mandate ban, a ban upheld by the courts.
