BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2022 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The son of Palm Beach County School Board President Frank Barbieri is in the Palm Beach County Jail Tuesday morning, charged with “domestic battery by strangulation.”

Boca Raton Police arrested Stephen Barbieri overnight. He was booked into jail at 1:24 this morning. The arrest occurred in the area of Barbieri’s home at 401 NE Mizner Boulevard. Law enforcement sources provided the following details from a report not yet filed with the Clerk of Courts:

“Upon arrival, I heard a verbal altercation coming from the apartment, in which a male was aggressively yelling and cursing at another subject inside. I then knocked on the door and made contact with Stephen Barbieri. According to Barbieri, he was inside his apartment with the victim having a verbal altercation. Barbieri stated the argument never became physical at any time.”

“I then spoke with the victim who appeared to be in visible distress. According to the victim, she was in a physical altercation with her on/off boyfriend Stephen Barbieri. The victim confirmed she was the female screaming for help after Barbieri attacked her while inside his apartment. The victim further advised during the physical altercation, Barbieri strangled her with both his hands, to the point where she could not breathe, put a pillow over her face to the point where she could not breathe, threw her to the ground multiple times, and bit her lip.”

Also from police: “The victim advised the altercation occurred in the bedroom where she went to talk with him. The victim stated that during the conversation, Barbieri suddenly grabbed her and threw her to the ground multiple times. Shortly after, Barbieri grabbed her by the throat with both hands and choked her to the point where it restricted her airflow. The victim also stated that Barbieri covered her mouth with a pillow and his hand to prevent her from screaming for help. It should be noted the victim advised that if law enforcement did not arrive when we did, Barbieri would have killed her.”

Barbieri, 49, is being held without bond as of 9:30 Tuesday morning. He is expected to appear in court later today.

The Palm Beach County Clerk of Courts reports no criminal history for Stephen Barbieri. We note that “domestic battery” charges are often reduced or dropped altogether.
