BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2022 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A New York-based construction manager with ties to Palm Beach County is facing a lawsuit after allegedly defaulting on payments to American Express.

Akiva Huffman of 180 Construction in New York is being sued in Palm Beach County Circuit Court for $127,836.38. That’s the total balance due on an American Express Business Platinum Card. Someone with a similar name, according to the Florida Secretary of State, has several business records tied to Palm Beach County and Boca Raton addresses.

According to the suit, Huffman has owed Amex the money since February of 2020. It is unclear why American Express waited two years to file suit. It is also unclear how Amex permitted more than $127,000 of charges on an account with a credit line of $24,200.

American Express is accusing Huffman of “Breach of Contract.”
