BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2022 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Meteorologists at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration — NOAA — are calling for an ”Above Average” hurricane season. The season starts on June 1st.

The prediction, released Tuesday morning, calls for 14-21 named storms, 6-10 of them becoming hurricanes, and 3-6 of those hurricane becoming ”major hurricanes.”

“Early preparation and understanding your risk is key to being hurricane resilient and climate-ready,” said Secretary of Commerce Gina M. Raimondo. “Throughout the hurricane season, NOAA experts will work around-the-clock to provide early and accurate forecasts and warnings that communities in the path of storms can depend on to stay informed.” 

NOAA officials stress that the prediction is not a ”landfall” prediction, but maintain it is always important for those living in coastal regions affected by hurricanes to always have a ”hurricane plan” ready.

The first named storm of 2022 will be Alex.
