BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2022 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Most lawyers will be the first to admit that they know nothing about Google Ads or “Pay Per Click” marketing, but most are tech-savvy enough to know when they’re being scammed. A lawsuit just filed in Palm Beach County Circuit Court alleges that “The Marketing Cartel,” an area search engine optimization firm, is playing games with major law firms in Boca Raton and is using the “Gordon and Partners” name to drive business to other clients.
According to the suit (and confirmed by BocaNewsNow.com when running tests on Google), a search for “Gordon and Partners” yields this as the first ad on Google: “Gordon and Partners — Ivey and Fronrath.” The company paying for the listing is using the “Gordon and Partners” name to promote “Ivey and Fronrath,” a completely unrelated law firm.
The filed complaint also includes screen shots of the same search yielding “Gordon and Partners — Rubenstein Law,” “Gordon and Partners — Kanner and Pintaluga,” and “Gordon and Partners — LaValle Brown and Ronan” as the results. Rubenstein Law; Kanner and Pintaluga; and Lavalle Brown are unrelated to Gordon and Partners.
There is absolutely no suggestion that Rubenstein; Ivey and Fronrath; Kanner and Pintaluga; or Lavalle Brown are responsible directly for the marketing. The suit is filed against “The Marketing Cartel” which is based in Coral Springs. Its president is Wilbur Hilton. The company did not file a response to the lawsuit as of 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. It is unclear which law firms are actually paying “The Marketing Cartel” or if they had any idea what information was being entered in the Google Adwords portal — the system used to display ads on the Google search engine.
There is no suggestion in the lawsuit that the firms know that the Marketing Cartel is using the “Gordon and Partners” name to drive business.
The suit alleges tortious interference and seeks financial damages. The Florida Bar prohibits lawyers and law firms from using deceptive marketing. To that end, the suit also seeks an injunction prohibiting The Marketing Cartel from using the “Gordon and Partners” name for any purpose. Read the entire suit, below.
