The following is the exact text of the obituary provided by the family.

FAMILY ANNOUNCEMENT

We mournfully announce the unexpected and tragic passing of Dena A. VanVoorhis. Devoted to her family and friends, Dena will be remembered for her loving and caring nature. Loved by all, cherished by many, Dena will be dearly missed and never forgotten.

A classically trained pianist, Dena was a musical prodigy, being the youngest person, at the young age of 9, to ever receive a full scholarship to the world-renowned David Mannes Music School located in New York City. With an extreme passion for horses, as well as for all animals, Dena then pursued her dream of becoming a professional jockey, working at Belmont Park racetrack in Elmont, New York. She then settled in Red Oaks Mills, NY where she raised her boys and worked for the Arlington school district until her recent retirement a few years ago.

Dena is survived by her mother Nadine Strumlauf, sons William Pfeister and Rodney Van Voorhis, grandchildren Abigail and Bailey, brother Scott Strumlauf, dog Bella, along with many loving cousins and life long friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at Gutterman Warheit Memorial Chapel, 7240 N Federal Hwy, Boca Raton, on Tuesday, July 26th at 2:00 PM.

A reception honoring Dena will immediately follow at Positano Restaurant, 4400 N. Federal Hwy.

Our family would like to thank everyone for their kindness and support during this most difficult time.
