DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2022 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Delray Beach woman is facing aggravated battery and resisting arrest charges after she allegedly stabbed her son with scissors following an argument over cake crumbs. The stabbing left multiple lacerations on her son who required emergency treatment at Delray Medical Center.

Cathy Casale, 71, of the 13000 block of Whippet Way in Delray Beach, according to a police report reviewed by BocaNewsNow.com, woke up to find cake crumbs in her kitchen. As documented by a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Deputy:

Casale noticed (her son) had left cake crumbs around the kitchen. This angered Casale and she began an argument with (her son) concerning it. Casale admitted to holding the scissors at this point in the argument. The argument moved to a bedroom at which point (the son)l threw Casale on a bed, removed the scissors from her hands, and put his hands around her throat to strangle her. (The son) then left the room and Casale thought he left to go to the gym. Casale denied stabbing Sockle with the scissors.

Dep. Valran conducted a sworn interview with (the son) at the Delay Medical Center emergency room. The son stated the following but not verbatim. The son left cake out in the kitchen prior to going to sleep. He awoke to Casale screaming at him about the cake. (The son) proceeded to fix his bed as the argument continued. The son advised Casale then, “came running at me,” and swinging at him. The son noticed a pair of scissors in her hands. He wrestled the scissors out of the hands of Casale, threw them across the room, then held Casale down momentarily. The son realized he was cut by the scissors after he noticed blood running down his arm. The son then exited the residence and called police.

The son was transported to Delray Medical Center while Casale, according to police, refused to leave her residence. As police prepared to storm the house, a dispatcher called Casale and ordered her to meet with deputies outside.

“When I asked Casale why she ran from us on her front lawn,” wrote a Deputy in the official report, “she stated she was afraid and thought we could not enter her house without a warrant.”

Cathy Casale was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on August 3rd and later released on $1500. A court date is pending.
