BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2022 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Parkland resident Steven Morowski allegedly wasn’t interested in taking part in a field sobriety test after Boca Raton Police stopped him early Tuesday morning for flying down Federal Highway.

According to Boca Raton Police, Morowski was speeding at 65 m.p.h. In a 35 zone. When police approached his Jeep, they said smelled of alcohol. This is the rest of what the arresting officer documented in his affidavit of probable cause:

On 8/23/2022, at approximately 0352 hours, I was stationary at 700 N Federal highway on the southbound shoulder conducting stationary Laser speed enforcement. I observed vehicle approaching me in the inside lane southbound on Federal Highway at a high rate of speed. I visually estimated the vehicle’s speed to be 65 MPH in a clearly posted 35 MPH zone.

I activated my calibrated Laser, locked onto the vehicle, and confirmed the vehicle’s speed at 65 MPH. As the vehicle passed, I activated my emergency equipment and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle where it came to a complete stop at 100 S Federal Highway. I walked up to the driver’s side window and identified the driver by his FL DL as Steven Morowski. As I approached the window, I was immediately presented with the overwhelming odor of Alcohol emanating from the vehicle.

While speaking with Morowski I observed his eyes to be bloodshot/watery and his speech pattern to be slow and slurred. Morowski advised he was driving home from a restaurant called “The Lionfish” where he consumed “1 drink before leaving.” Due to the combination of all post-stop clues along with Morowski ‘s admission to consumption of alcohol I requested Morowski to participate in Field Sobriety Exercises (FSEs) to which he declined. I thoroughly explained the observations I had made and the purpose of FSEs as well as explained that his failure to participate can be entered as evidence into any proceedings. After acknowledging he understood everything, Morowski again declined to participate in FSEs.

Due to the totality of the circumstances and my training/axperience, I feel the defendant is too impaired to operate a motor vehicle safely.
The defendant was placed under arrest at 0401 hours, for driving under the influence. Morowski was placed in handcuffs that were checked for tightness and double locked.

Morowski was transported to the BRPD DUI room. Morowski initially indicated that he did not wish to provide a breath sample and as such was read Implied Consent Warnings at 0429 hours. After acknowledging he understood, Morowski dacided to provide a sample. Reference Intoxilyzer results were (.223, .222).

Steven Morowski, 34, of Holmberg Road in Parkland, was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail at 7:12 a.m. on August 23rd. He was in jail for most of the day before being released on his own recognizance at 7:31 p.m. He is charged with DUI.
