Brooklyn Water Bagel in East Boca Raton was ordered closed by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2022 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The popular Brooklyn Water Bagel location at 2250 North Federal Highway was ordered closed by an inspector with Florida’s Department of Business and Professional Regulation when several flying insects were found in the restaurant during a routine inspection.

It took two additional inspections before the State of Florida permitted Brooklyn Water Bagel to reopen.

Per BocaNewsNow.com policy, the following is the exact language — with no editing — recorded by the State of Florida during inspections on September 12th and September 13th. The restaurant was ordered to close on September 12th.

FIRST INSPECTION ON SEPTEMBER 12, 2022

High Priority – Live, small flying insects in kitchen, food preparation area, food storage area and/or bar area. 3 live flies landing on utensil dispensers in dining room 1 live fly landing on coffee pot Approximately 10 live flies on walls of dining room 3 live flies landing on front of open refrigerated display case 2 live flies above open single use items in kitchen 4 live flies on closed cases of single use items in kitchen Approximately 20 live flies on walls of bagel kitchen 2 live flies on wall above cookline in kitchen 1 live fly on ticket rail on cookline in kitchen 1 live fly in open clamshell Togo container on cookline in kitchen. Container discarded.

Intermediate – Spray bottle containing toxic substance not labeled. At cookline hand wash sink, spray bottle not labeled. Manager labeled **Corrected On-Site**

SECOND INSPECTION ON SEPTEMBER 12, 2022

High Priority – – From initial inspection : High Priority – Live, small flying insects in kitchen, food preparation area, food storage area and/or bar area. 3 live flies landing on utensil dispensers in dining room 1 live fly landing on coffee pot Approximately 10 live flies on walls of dining room 3 live flies landing on front of open refrigerated display case 2 live flies above open single use items in kitchen 4 live flies on closed cases of single use items in kitchen Approximately 20 live flies on walls of bagel kitchen 2 live flies on wall above cookline in kitchen 1 live fly on ticket rail on cookline in kitchen 1 live fly in open clamshell Togo container on cookline in kitchen. Container discarded – From follow-up inspection 2022-09-12: Approximately 10 live flies on walls at entrance to restrooms in dining room 3 live flies landing on coffee dispensers in dining room 5 live flies on side of soda dispensing machine Approximately 5 live flies on walls of bagel forming area **Admin Complaint**

The issue was considered acceptable during a September 13th inspection when the restaurant was permitted to reopen.
