BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2022 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — West Boca Raton resident Janet Conrad is facing a DUI charge after police say she was seen driving the wrong way on U.S. 441 near Kimberly Blvd. Conrad, 57, of Sundance Lane, allegedly drove over a median and eventually stopped with police behind her.

This is the narrative of the incident obtained by BocaNewsNow.com, as filed by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.

On Sunday, October 2, 2022, at approximately 2158 hours, while assigned to District 7 and while driving my Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Mark patrol vehicle asset #84093. As I drove North Bound on U. S Highway 441, passing the intersection of Kimberly Rd, in unincorporated Boca Raton, Fl 33434, I observed a red vehicle driving Northbound on the Southbound lanes.

Upon approaching the vehicle, I observed multiple motorists driving southbound on U. S Highway 441 attempting to avoid the red Honda, while they also beep their horns at the vehicle. I immediately activated my overhead red and blue light in an attempt to get the attention of the driver. The driver then drove over the median barrier onto the northbound traffic lanes of U. S. 441. I then placed my patrol vehicle behind the Red Honda Accord with my overhead lights and siren activated in an attempt to initiate a traffic stop. The driver of the vehicle continues to drive at a normal speed. I activated my siren and air horn multiple times until the driver finally stopped at the left turning lane on U. S. Highway 441 and New England Blvd.

I immediately exited my vehicle and observed a blond white female driving the vehicle. As I approached the vehicle, the female drove off and made a left turn on New England Blvd. The vehicle again turned into the East Bound lanes while driving Westbound. I again placed my marked patrol vehicle with overhead lights and sirens activated behind the female driver and she stop the car.

While approaching the vehicle, I observed a white female wearing a blue dress. I tap on the window and asked the female to lower the driver-side window so I could speak to her. The female open the window and I asked her why she was driving northbound in the Southbound lanes in an attempt to see if she was suffering a medical emergency. The female stated she did not know. While speaking with the female I noted slurred speech and a strong odor of an unknown alcoholic beverage emanating from her person and her breath as she talked.

I also noticed the female rocking from side to side while sitting on the driver’s seat as she was unable to hold her balance. Other deputies and I asked the female where was she coming from and she stated I asked the female where she was coming from she uttered “from a bar.” Based on the above mention, I requested a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office DUI unit to respond to the incident to conduct a DUI investigation.

Janet Conrad refused to submit to a breath or blood alcohol test and was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail. She was later released on her own recognizance. A court date is pending.
