BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2022 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A prescribed burn in north Broward County is likely to create the smell of smoke in south Palm beach County. The Broward County Parks Department issued this advisory Monday afternoon:
Broward County Parks and Recreation Division, along with the Florida Forest Service, is scheduled to burn two small areas of Military Trail Natural Area (4600 NW Ninth Ave./N. Military Trail, Deerfield Beach 33064), weather permitting, sometime this week. The prescribed fires will be in the northeast strip along the fence line and the southwest corner of the site and cover about six acres.
The area is located just east of Military Trail, south of NW 48th St., west of I-95. In addition to increasing biodiversity and improving wildlife habitat, this management tool is essential to maintaining this flatwood vegetation community, decreasing the threat of a catastrophic wildfire by reducing the thick undergrowth. The prescribed burn will be conducted by professionally trained firefighters from the Florida Forest Service, in conjunction with Broward County Parks.
Specific weather conditions are required for the prescribed burn to be conducted. If the weather conditions are not met on the day of the burn, the fire will be postponed.
