Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit are investigating an attempted kidnapping that occurred just before 1 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 18, in Pompano Beach.

According to detectives, three juvenile females were walking home from the 2700 block of Northeast Ninth Court when a man on a bicycle made contact with them. Two of the girls immediately ran away. The third girl, aged 14, continued walking until she realized the male subject was following her. At that point, she also began to run. The male subject blocked her path and attempted to grab her by her hoodie. The male subject told her to get on his bike. The female screamed and was able to run away.

The girls immediately alerted trusted adults and contacted law enforcement. Detectives have obtained video evidence that corroborates the incident; however, the video does not show an image of the male subject and is not being released at this time.

The juveniles said the subject is a black male, approximately 5 feet 7 inches with a muscular build. He is bald or has very short hair with no facial hair. His bicycle is believed to be dark in color.

The community is asked to be on alert, and anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact BSO Special Victims Unit Detective Yanessa Ayra at 954-321-4200 or submit a tip through the SaferWatch App. If you wish to remain anonymous, please contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477), online at browardcrimestoppers.org, or dial **TIPS (8477) from any cellphone in the United States.
