UPDATE: 4:03 p.m. Monday — Sources connected to the investigation state that a woman is on a ventilator as a result of the crash, but Delray Beach Police continue to provide no information. We have personally reached out to Chief Russ Mager, police spokesperson Ted White, Delray Beach Mayor Shelly Petrolia, and City of Delray Beach spokesperson Gina Carter. We are hoping one of them will explain to the public what actually happened on New Year’s Eve. Absent of a response, expect a major update from sources early Tuesday morning.

UPDATE: 1:08 p.m. Monday — Still no response from Delray Beach PD.

DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Several witnesses tell BocaNewsNow.com that a critical crash left multiple people injured Saturday night on East Atlantic Avenue in the area of the Intracoastal Bridge. But the Delray Beach Police Department is saying nothing — raising questions about the police response.

According to one witness: “Accident occurred at 11:07 PM. At least 4 pedestrians were J walking and a car traveling East hit them at full speed. One woman was hit extremely hard We were traveling west in an Uber and we witnessed the entire accident. It happened in a split second. I was with two young kids so our Uber driver while stopped for a few minutes after we passed the impact continued to drop us off. Our driver actually said a second before impact “the people are going to get hit”.

Another witness told BocaNewsNow.com that it appeared someone was killed. The area of Atlantic Avenue was shut down for several hours.

Why is the Delray Beach Police Department not responding to a request for information about the crash? We do not know. Holidays are irrelevant in policing — agencies work 24 hours a day. It is inexplicable that a major police department would not acknowledge what appears to be a critical crash witnessed by scores of people in one of the busiest areas on one of the busiest nights of the year. We will update once we receive more information.
