BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A bizarre afternoon ground stop for almost all South Florida flights on Monday has been resolved, with flight schedules resuming Tuesday morning.

Air Traffic Control in Miami suffered an outage of an automated system, resulting a ground stop across much of Florida. The “Enroute Automation Modernization System,” or ERAM, suffered an outage around 1 p.m. As is often the case, the outage created a domino effect as flight after flight was delayed or stopped.

The outage came as Southwest Airlines continues to recover from more than a week of cancellations that stranded tens of thousands of travelers nationwide. Other airlines sustained significant delays as the FAA worked the South Florida problem on Monday.

As of early Tuesday morning, most flights appeared to be scheduled to depart or arrive on time at Fort Lauderdale, Miami, and Palm Beach International Airports. Only a handful of flights appeared to show minor delays as of 4 a.m.
