BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A student with a knife was taken into custody Wednesday at Omni Middle School in Boca Raton. Parents reaching out to BocaNewsNow.com say the situation was handled swiftly.
Principal Nikkia Deluz sent the following message to parents shortly after the incident:
“Today, School Police safely removed a knife from the backpack of a student. The possession of a knife on campus, regardless of the reason, is a serious offense. That individual is in School Police custody and may face criminal charges, in addition to strict discipline, as outlined in the Student Code of Conduct.
The School District is committed to ensuring a safe learning and working environment for all students and staff, and disciplinary action may be taken against any student or individual who violates the District’s Zero Tolerance Policy for any infraction that poses a threat to school safety.”
The school district confirmed the incident to BocaNewsNow.com late Wednesday afternoon.
It was not immediately clear why the student said he or she had a knife at school. Omni Middle School has had significant problems over the past several years, including a series of fights that were documented on video and shared by students on social media.
