BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — If you see a large police presence Saturday at Spanish River High School in Boca Raton, do not be alarmed.

The Palm Beach County School District’s police force is spending much of the day training with the City of Boca Raton Police Department in a “closed to public, closed to media” setting. The school district alerted media late Friday.

Trainings are routine. The timing of this training is notable. The five year anniversary of the massacre at Marjorie Stoneman-Douglas High School in Parkland, just miles away, is on February 14th. Seventeen students and staffers were killed.

The Palm Beach County School District runs its own, fully certified police department. The department, however, works with both the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office and specific city municipalities to prepare for a rapid response should one ever be needed in a specific school. Spanish River High School is located at 5100 Jog Road.
