We are publishing the narrative provided by Florida Highway Patrol. Note that the abbreviations used in the report are deciphered this way:
Vehicle 1 – 2012 Honda Civic 4-door Sedan. Vehicle 2 – 2012 Subaru Impreza 4-door Sedan. Persons involved: Driver of Vehicle 1 (D-1) – Male, 17 YOA; West Palm Beach, Florida; Non-Incapacitating Injuries. Driver of Vehicle 2 (D-2) – Male, 22 YOA; Port Saint Lucie, Florida; Non-Incapacitating Injuries Pedestrian (P-1) – Unidentified Male – Fatal Injuries.
CRASH NARRTIVE: V-1 was traveling south on southbound Interstate 95 upon the outside paved travel lane, approaching Lantana Road, at a high rate of speed. V-2 was traveling south on southbound Interstate 95 upon the exit-only lane for Lantana Road (Exit 61). P-1 was walking/standing upon the outside shoulder of southbound Interstate 95. For reasons still under investigation, D-1 failed to maintain his lane of travel as V-1 veered to the right, into the path of V-2. The aforementioned resulted in a side-angular collision. The front right side of V-1 struck the left side of V-2.
Post-collision with V-2, V-1 traveled in a southwesterly direction through the outside paved shoulder continuing onto the outside grass shoulder. The front right hood/windshield areas of V-1 struck P-1. The impact launched P-1 in a southwesterly direction. P-1 came to final rest upon the outside grass shoulder. Post-Collision with P-1, V-1 continued to travel in a southwesterly direction coming to final rest facing west, upon the outside grass shoulder. V-2 came to a controlled stop facing south upon the outside paved shoulder.
Palm Beach County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the traffic crash scene for medical assistance. P-1 succumbed to injuries sustained as a result of the traffic crash and was pronounced deceased on-scene by Fire Rescue personnel.
