BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Glades Road at I-95 is now completely closed in both directions. The closure continues until 6 a.m. Monday. Anyone wishing to access locations like Boca Raton Town Center Mall from east of I-95, or FAU from west of I-95, will need to follow detours to circumvent the closure. The on-ramps and off-ramps to I-95 are also closed.

The closure is part of the final construction schedule for the “Diverging Diamond” which opens by 6 a.m. on Monday. The “Diverging Diamond,” several years in the making, is designed to ease traffic on Glades Road at I-95 while also simplifying entering and exiting the Interstate.

Drivers, however, may be confused once the diamond goes “live.” Traffic will appear to move in a counter-intuitive direction. Eastbound traffic will drive into what is now the westbound lanes, while westbound traffic will drive in what is now the eastbound lanes. But by the time drivers realize anything is different, they will likely have already passed through the system.

Diverging Diamonds already exist in other locations across the state, including Ives Dairy Road and Biscayne Boulevard in Aventura. Learn more about the Diverging Diamond here.
