BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A man says he was shot in the head when a drug deal went bad at Aura Apartments in Boca Raton. BocaNewsNow.com has obtained new information in the shooting that we first reported on Wednesday.

According to official sources, Boca Raton PD received a 911 call from a man who said he was shot in the head in the area of 789 West Yamato Road at 12:48 Wednesday morning. The victim was later found behind the wheel of a Toyota Camry. He needed medical attention but his injuries were not life threatening.

The man had apparently picked up a friend in Pompano Beach to come to the Aura Apartment Complex to sell marijuana to two men interested in doing a deal. At Aura, the sellers were apparently in communication with two black male suspects who we will identify as “the buyers.” While each person involved in the incident provided a slightly different version of events, this is a retelling the includes most of the facts provided to BocaNewsNow.com:

“The buyers” communicated with “the sellers” via Instagram and told them to “turn around” once they entered the Aura complex. When they did, “the buyers” walked up to the driver’s side door and asked “the sellers” “can we see the weed?” They later asked if they could smell the marijuana. One of “the buyers” put his head into the car and tried to take the marijuana out of “one of the seller’s hands.”

But “the seller” didn’t let go of the marijuana and a struggle ensued. One of the buyers allegedly said, “if you f—ing move I’m going to kill you.”

“The sellers” tried to drive away but one of “the buyers” took a firearm out and pointed it at the victim’s face. The other man in the car ducked down and then heard a gunshot. He got out while the now shot “seller” drove away. He drove towards Congress Avenue out of the Aura Apartment Complex and then the vehicle stopped in the middle of the roadway.

Boca Raton Police developed leads into “the buyers” and eventually identified them. One is now in custody and charged with attempted felony murder. He apparently stays in Aura but may not be an official resident. A second arrest is pending. Names are being withheld, for now, due to the ages of some of the people involved.
