BY: TRAFFIC CENTER | BocaNewsNow.com
UPDATE: 12:42 p.m. — While there has not been an official “all clear” from the Florida Dept. of Transportation, we understand that all southbound lanes have now reopened following the early morning fatality in the area of Glades Road.
UPDATE: 11:16 a.m. — Florida Highway Patrol tells BocaNewsNow.com that a man was walking on I-95 when he was struck by a car around 6:30 this morning. After being hit by the vehicle, he landed on the ground where he was hit by a second vehicle. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. There is no explanation as to why the man was walking on I-95 — where pedestrians are prohibited. No one has been cited. The identity of the victim has not been released, although we do know that he is a white male from Boca Raton.
UPDATE at 10:38 a.m. — FDOT reports the southbound lanes are still closed.
UPDATE at 9:54 a.m. — At least one person is now confirmed dead, according to BocaNewsNow.com sources. FDOT re-alerted moments ago that I-95 remains closed, more than three hours after the crash.
BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — I-95 is closed southbound in the area of Glades Road as of 9 a.m. There is a major crash in the area.
Boca Raton Police first alerted of the incident during the 6 a.m. hour. The road was initially thought to be closed briefly. But the incident has been elevated to “major accident” status and may be closed for quite some time. Injuries and deaths at this point are unknown.
The closure starts at Congress where all traffic southbound is being forced to exit. Detours will route traffic around Glades Road and then back on I-95 in Broward County. We note that the Glades Road exit is the area of the new Diverging Diamond.
We are awaiting an update from Florida Highway Patrol for official details. Check back throughout the day.
