DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The Delray Beach Police Department’s Homicide Unit is investigating a critical crash that happened in the area of Homewood Blvd. and Fiore Way around noon today. We note involvement of the homicide unit doesn’t necessarily mean that someone died — or that death is imminent — but that injuries are so serious that a full-scale investigation is required.

Delray Beach Police released this advisory at 3:36 p.m. Wednesday:
The Delray Beach Police Department Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating a two vehicle crash that happened around 12:15 this afternoon. The driver of an SUV (White Toyota Highlander) was travelling at a high rate of speed south on Homewood Blvd. when she struck the back of a (Maroon Kia Sorento SUV) travelling in the same direction.
The white SUV crashed into a concrete pole and the maroon SUV landed on its side near a retention pond and caught fire. The male driver of the maroon SUV was able to get out of the vehicle. The driver of the SUV was extricated by Delray Beach Fire Rescue. Both drivers were transported to the hospital. Homewood Blvd. has been shut down in both directions between Lowson Blvd. and Fiore Way. Anyone who saw the crash or has any relevant information is asked to contact DBPD traffic homicide investigator Nick Windsor at (561) 243-7800.
