BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Move over, 561. The brand new 728 area code debuts today for Palm Beach County. Effective immediately, new telephone numbers will almost assuredly be given the new area code.
What happened to 561? As difficult that it may be to believe, every phone number possible using the 561 area code has been exhausted. While some are available from online VOIP (Voice Over IP) services, there are officially no more 561 numbers to use.
728 doesn’t spell anything — unlike South Florida Area Code 786 which spells SUN, or the fun Space Coast area code of 321.
The new area code covers all of Palm Beach County, and there is no additional charge — if you are on a phone plan that still charges per call — to call between the 561 and 728 area codes.
