BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Boca Raton man is facing a DUI charge after allegedly driving on the sidewalk after leaving a Super 8 Motel in Lantana. Matthew Knox was taken into custody by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office which filed the following narrative reviewed by BocaNewsNow.com.
“On Friday March 17, 2023 at approximately 2220 hours, while assigned to the District 6 Street Crimes Unit, I observed a silver Ford Explorer FL exit the parking lot of the Super 8 Motel situated at 1255 Hypoluxo Road Lantana FL 33462. As the vehicle was exiting the motel to go west on Hypoluxo Road it traveled halfway onto the sidewalk and continued to travel west. As the vehicle was traveling west on Hypoluxo Road, I observed it weaving from side to side. I then activated my blue emergency lights and the vehicle continued to travel over I-95 and come to a stop at the Wawa Gas station situated at 1965 Hypoluxo Road.
I made contact with the driver and sole occupant later identified as, Matthew Knox. I immediately detected an odor of an alcohol beverage coming from the interior of the vehicle. I asked Knox for his driver’s license and vehicle registration and advised him of his driving behavior, namely driving over the sidewalk. Knox stated that he knows he messed up and apologized. As Knox was speaking to me, I could smell an odor of alcohol coming from his breath, and noticed that his speech was slurred and his eyes were red and glossy. I asked Knox where he was coming from, he stated the Key Lime house.”
The report continues. “I asked then asked Knox if he was coming from the Super 8 Motel and he stated that he pulled into the Super 8 to make a phone call. I asked Knox if he consumed any alcoholic beverages this evening, he stated that he had two drinks. I asked Knox to exit the vehicle, upon doing so, I observed that he was unsteady on his feet and was swaying back and forth while standing. Knox then spontaneously stated, that he knows he messed up and asked if he could call an Uber.
Knox refused to take part in field sobriety tests and also refused to provide a breath alcohol sample. Under Florida’s implied consent law, that results in an automatic license suspension unless a judge decides otherwise. Knox lives in the 6000 block of Old Court Road in Boca Raton. He was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail and later released on his own recognizance.
