BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office fugitive warrants unit apprehended and arrested Jamie Josue Gomez Escobedo Tuesday afternoon. The Boca Raton man is charged with the deaths of Arie Oberlender and Goldie Oberlender in a horrific car crash on February 1st.
BocaNewsNow.com was on the scene moments after investigators say Escobedo ran the red light at U.S. 441 and Kimberly Road, plowing into the vehicle driven by the Oberlenders.
Both Goldie and Arie Oberlender — visiting from North Woodmere, NY — were pronounced dead on the scene. A passenger in the vehicle, Frida Bross, remains in critical condition.
An initial police report indicated that Escobedo may have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the wreck. Investigators apparently now believe that is the case — he is charged with two counts of DUI Manslaughter and one county of “driving under the influence causing serious bodily injury.”
