DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A student at Atlantic High School in Delray Beach spent several hours Thursday in the Palm Beach County Jail after school officials found a weapon in her backpack.
The Palm Beach County School District Police Department, in a report just released and reviewed by BocaNewsNow.com, alleges that Wilburnia Camilus was detained by school administrators after she and other students were found in a bathroom at Atlantic High that smelled of smoke. The students were not supposed to be in the bathroom at the time of the administrative intervention.
According to the police report, Wilburnia’s backpack was searched by school officials who found a “stun gun pink in color” inside the bag. When questioned, Wilburnia allegedly told officials that she kept the stun gun in her bag for “protection.”
The Palm Beach County School District has a zero tolerance policy for all weapons. The school district’s police force arrested Wilburnia Camilus and charged her with possession of a weapon on school district property. She was booked into jail and later released on $3,000 bond. A court date is pending.
