Boca Raton Police On Another Scene See Habitual Offender, Arrest Her

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Boca Raton Police Officers, on the scene of routine call Wednesday evening, saw a driver nearby who they knew to be prohibited from driving. That woman, Barbara Shortt, was confronted and taken into custody. It’s an example of Boca Raton police officers knowing the people in their community. The police report, obtained by BocaNewsNow.com, explains what happened:

“The Officer immediately recognized the offender from previous law enforcement contact and had prior knowledge the offender’s Driver License is currently suspended. The offender is a Habitual Traffic Offender under FSS 322.264 as maintained by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicle. On 03/24/2023, at 2000 NW 2ND Ave, Officer Vick pulled over and cited the offender for her Habitual Traffic Offender status and driving an unregistered vehicle.

DHSM records reflect the offender possesses three “Guilty” dispositions reference Driving While License Canceled/Revoked/Suspended. On 01/29/2019, on 11/04/2019, and on 11/17/2022. The offender was effectively entered as a Habitual Traffic Offender on 12/19/2022 and for a period of 5 years.

(Shortt was placed) under arrest for Operating Vehicle While Driver License Suspd/Cancd/Revoked Third or More Conviction (FSS 322.34 (2)) and transported to
BRPD booking.”

Shortt was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail where she remains early Friday morning. Bond is set at $3,000.
