BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — If you get a call from someone claiming to be a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Deputy, and that person is telling you that you missed jury duty, ignore it. That’s the alert from PBSO Wednesday as the scam is growing in the area.

According to PBSO, “there is an imposter calling members of the community and claiming to be a deputy from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.  This imposter is accusing the recipient of the call that he/she missed jury duty and a warrant has been issued for his/her arrest.  The imposter goes on to say that the warrant can be rectified by purchasing a gift card.”

The gift card being demanded varies in value, but the end game is the same in every case. The person claiming to be a deputy wants you to read the gift card number to the deputy on the phone — complete with any security code. The imposter threatens to send a deputy to your home — to arrest you — if you do not comply.

According to PBSO, “This is a scam. PBSO employees do not call for legal matters, personal information, money, or jury duty.”

If you receive a call like this or any other SCAM please contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-458-TIPS or you can remain ANONYMOUS by downloading our new app “PBSO” for your Apple or Android Smart Phone and using the “See Something”feature. The app can also be downloaded here.
