UPDATE: As of 3:30 p.m., the United States Postal Service is only confirming that the incident happened. Investigators are NOT releasing suspect information, images from the scene, or explaining what is being done to protect office workers. USPS is the only agency that can release information about the incident. Here is their official response: “The armed robbery of a USPS letter carrier occurred on Monday, May 22, 2023, at approximately 1:00PM, at 2255 Glades Rd, Boca Raton, FL 33431.  The USPS letter carrier was not injured during the robbery.  The suspects are two black males, wearing masks with their eyes visible.  Currently, no further information is available.  The US Postal Inspection Service is actively working this case with local law enforcement in hopes of apprehending the suspects quickly and without incident.”

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The Boca Raton Police Department and the United States Postal Service Police are notably saying very little about the brazen mid-day attack on a United States Postal Worker at One Boca Place — 2255 West Glades Road. The attack happened Monday.

According to those familiar with the situation, a postal worker at a mail center in the building’s stand-alone garage was preparing to collect and deliver mail when several men approached with guns. The postal worker was robbed of personal belongings, but mail was apparently not stolen. BocaNewsNow.com has learned that the Boca Raton Police Department had the area under routine surveillance due to reports of stolen mail. Whether police were on scene at the time of the attack is unclear. Even though the garage is within the Boca Raton Police Department jurisdiction, a department official said the investigation is only being handled by USPS investigators. It is a notable response. Gun crimes, where suspects flee, are traditionally investigated by the local municipality which would issue suspect description information.

One Boca Place houses financial services professionals, law firms, and at least one “virtual” office center. It was unclear if the gunmen targeted the postal worker or were actually attempting to obtain mail from a certain business. The postal worker was not injured. A USPS Spokesperson referred questions to the postal inspection service. We are awaiting a response as of 6:20 a.m.

In an email obtained by BocaNewsNow.com, One Boca Place makes several questionable claims, including that building management is working with “local” law enforcement agencies. Boca Raton Police asserts the United States Postal Inspection Service is the agency handling the case. Here is the email from One Boca Place management which several recipients suggest reads like it was copied and pasted from a “what to do if something goes wrong” manual:

“It has come to our attention that an incident involving a firearm took place, and we wanted to provide you with some important information regarding the situation. First and foremost, we want to assure you that your safety and security are of paramount importance to us. We have been working closely with local law enforcement authorities, who are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the incident. They are dedicated to resolving the matter and ensuring ongoing safety.

We kindly request your cooperation and vigilance during this time. If you notice any suspicious activity or individuals around the building, particularly near the mailbox area, please report it immediately to the building management or contact the local authorities.”

Workers in the building contacting BocaNewsNow.com say One Boca Place — which is managed by “CP Group” — was aware of issues but did nothing to increase security in the garage.
