PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is on the scene mid-day of a small plane crash on Congress Avenue near Lantana Airport. Two people are confirmed dead. The plane was registered to Victor B. Keifer III of Palm Beach Gardens. A man by the same name died in 2022.

While official details are few, BocaNewsNow.com has learned from FlightAware.com that a Cessna 172P took off from Lantana at 11:18 a.m. with no destination. Its status is now listed as “unknown.” The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office says it received a report of a plane down at 11:19 a.m.

Lantana Airport, with the locator code of KLNA, is part of the Palm Beach County Airport System. It’s known as “Palm Beach County Park Airport.”

The plane’s flight history shows several flights departing and returning to KLNA within short periods of time.

UPDATE: 12:56 p.m. with new statement from PBSO: “At approximately 11:20, PBCFR Units were dispatched to the South County Park Airport in Lantana for a reported Aircraft Incident. It was reported by multiple callers that a small plane had crashed. Initial arriving units found a plane was down in the northeast portion of the airport, east of runway 16.  There was fire.  The fire was brought under control at 11:27.  There were two individuals on the plane.  Both were confirmed dead on scene by PBCFR Paramedics. The NTSB is responding to investigate.”
